His mission: to launch and keep the El Oct\u00f3gono Beach Club open year-round\u2014not just in summer.<\/p>\n<p>In October 1987, he returned to Sotogrande with a new idea: to open Restaurante Midas in the newly inaugurated Marina. And so, in March 1988, the now-legendary Midas of Sotogrande opened its doors. They soon began opening other leisure venues that would shape the social life of the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">They started with a beach bar on Torreguadiaro beach, next to the staircase from the port, where they stayed for two years. Later, at the request of Sotogrande\u2019s management, they moved to the namesake beach, where they spent eight summers. There, for instance, the Hobby Cat World Championship was successfully held. However, suddenly and without prior notice, the Town Hall handed over the management of that beach bar to Sotogrande S.A.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At the same time, in 1991, they opened a Midas branch at the Sierra Nevada ski resort. With the same name and a menu adapted to the mountain setting, this restaurant allowed them to balance Sotogrande\u2019s low season with Sierra Nevada\u2019s high season until 2015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While still operating the venue at the Marina, they took over the restaurant at the \u201cEl Cucurucho\u201d Beach Club during the summers of 1994 and 1995. From there, they continued to drive Sotogrande\u2019s nightlife. First with a nightclub at Cucurucho itself, then with \u201cLa Khama,\u201d a summer terrace in Paniagua. The latter, however, had to close due to noise complaints.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That was when they proposed to Sotogrande S.A. the creation of a nightclub that would not disturb the neighbors. During this period, they also decided to open a Midas in Seville, which operated for two years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2000, together with other partners, they opened the restaurant \u201cZald\u00eda,\u201d offering a more refined culinary proposal, which remained open until 2005. That same year, after 18 years in its original location, they were forced to move Midas to its current premises\u2014now solely owned by the Solano brothers\u2014due to the previous landlord\u2019s refusal to renew the lease or sell the property at a fair price.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=&#8221;0&#8243; Thus, the After Polo was born, first as Scapa Polo Lounge (three years), then as Grey Goose Polo Lounge (another three years), becoming a reference for nightlife in Sotogrande until 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda chose to enjoy retirement, dedicating himself to photography and traveling. Luis took over management of the restaurant alongside Jos\u00e9 Antonio, the new partner, renting the premises\u2014sold to Acciona\u2014until December 2021, when Acciona transferred the Hotel Club Mar\u00edtimo building to a company linked to the MIM hotel chain. That partnership lasted two years, ending on October 31, 2023, when the lease concluded, prompting the search for a new home for the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>On November 17, 2023, \u201cPremidas,\u201d a small tavern next to the El Oct\u00f3gono Beach Club, was inaugurated.
